well , the design make the signature of your website , so far , if everyone offer the same service and got the same design , they will become bored ^^

i don't think it is that good to change the base design , it is easy to edit and with a little skills and help you can something realy great

I don't think that the solution is to add more default themes. Because if there will be 3 default themes and 100 sites there will be 30-40 sitse which use the same design and it is also as boring as 100 sites use the same theme. So the 1 theme option is good. And those admins who would like to have unique design and attract users can buy themes from other sites or can hire a designer to be absolutely unique.
